We plan to open a model school in one of the villages of Namabasa, where we have bought three and a half acres of land for this purpose. Namabasa is just outside Mbale, and has recently been incorporated into Mbale City. The school will mainly be for underprivileged girls and boys, and will initially cater for the three Nursery years. As well as being a good quality school for the community, we will primarily use it as a ‘model’ for good practice. As such, it will demonstrate the use and implementation of our programmes.

We have appointed a local architect to draw up proposals. We hope that construction work will start in 2024, once we have all the necessary regulatory approvals.

In the future, we plan to extend our work up into the early years of Primary education. We shall develop programmes and resources that fully comply with the Ugandan Thematic Curriculum, and that model creative, conceptual and effective teaching practice. In line with this plan, we hope our ‘model school’ will eventually include Primaries 1-3, and in the long term we may consider extending this to Primaries 4-7.

We believe that teaching children about effective ways to get involved in agriculture is an important part of education. As such, we plan to have a small farm at the school. This will give children the opportunity to learn about growing crops and looking after animals. Any produce from the farm will be used to supplement the children’s diet while at school.
